Abstract
A comatose state with fever and raised peripheral blood leukocyte counts after stroke are usually regarded as fateful indices of CVA. Furthermore, clinical picture can be put to more useful predictors including abnormal neurologic findings for acute strokes.
In this study, a scoring system is designed to investigate the possible role as early prognostic criteria in the patients with CVA at the expense of 0-2 points subdividing by severity grade in each of pupilar change, level of consciousness, peripheral white blood cell counts, level of blood pressure and CSF colour on the initial findings particularly within an hour after admission.
A total of 265 cases out of the original 338 patients died for an overall mortality rate of 48.8%. It is readily apparent that the patient with a low score fared much poorer prognosis than those with a higher score. The bleeding types of CVAA remarked much lower score than those of non-bleeding, and the shorter the survival time, the lower the score.
Mean score of overall CVA patients was 5.06¡¾13.45.
The patient with a score between 0 and 2 made up class I, between 3 and 5, class II, between 6 and 9, class III, and a score of 10 to 12, class IV.
In order of classes, the mortality rates were represented as 92~100%, 47~73%. 10~19% and less than 5%, respectively.
